Obituary For Bette Louise Thome
Bette Louise Thome, aged 99, passed away peacefully on March 3, 2021 at Meadowlark Retirement Village, Sparta.
Mom was born October 16th, 1921 in Grand Rapids, MI to James and Hattie Peterson, 14 years after the birth of her sister Annabelle.
Mom grew up on the north side of Grand Rapids MI. She was fond of telling everyone that she graduated from the original Union High School in 1939. She married Donald Thome of Sparta in 1943. They raised three children (Kathy, Jim, and Beth) on 10 Mile Road, near his parent's apple farm.
Mom retired from Continental Identification Products in Sparta after 30 plus years of dedicated service. She was a reliable hard worker and made many friends there.
We have many fond memories of family times spent together at Thanksgiving and Christmas, at their cabin near Baldwin, and their former home on Brooks Lake, Newaygo. She was a terrific cook. She enjoyed cruises with family and friends and semi-annual trips to the casinos up north with her daughter and grandson. Also, many trips with other relatives.
She happily spent her last 3 years at Meadowlark Retirement Village where she was well-cared for by the staff. She especially enjoyed having coffee in her favorite chair in the dining room while visiting with many friends as well as playing bingo even at age 99.
Survived by daughter Kathleen (Kelly) Allen of Farwell MI, son James (Jayne) of Sparta, granddaughter Jilaine (James) Rees III of Sparta, grandson Josh of Sparta, great grandchildren Joel, Alec, and Julia Rees of Sparta, brothers-in-law Richard Thome and Joseph (Mary Ann) Thome, numerous nieces and nephews.
Pre-deceased by parents, daughter Beth (1968), husband Donald (2007) after 63 years of marriage, treasured sister Annabelle (Carl) Bloom, brothers-in law and sisters-in-law, nephew Robert Bloom.
Due to Covid 19, a private family funeral will be held. Memorial contributions may be sent to Sparta Meadowlark Village Benevolent Fund or Emmanuel Hospice. We would like to thank Meadowlark Village for their excellent loving care of Mom, especially Lisa, Darlene, and their staff as they loved her, too. Also, we would like to thank Emmanuel Hospice for all their time, attention and loving care for Mom, especially Beth, Heidi and Abby. We will miss you mom.
