Obituary For Elsie May Ness
Former Florida resident Elsie May Ness, 96, died peacefully with family by her side on July 9, 2021, in Sparta, Michigan.
A small private graveside service is planned on Monday, July 12, 2021, for close family where she will be laid to rest at Ottawa Center Cemetery in Coopersville, Michigan.
Elsie was born June 10, 1925, in Coopersville, Michigan to her parents, Harry and Bertha (Warnke) Hellman. She lived and raised her family in Southwest Michigan before moving to Spring Hill, Florida with her beloved husband, Milton. She resided in Spring Hill for the last 45 years. In that community Elsie enjoyed one of her favorite interests – gardening – and was renowned for her orchids and was an active member and former president of the Garden Club of Florida. In 1987 Elsie was also a founding member of the Spring Hill Calvary Church of the Nazarene where she remained a member until she returned to live in Sparta Michigan in 2021.
To her beloved family, whom Elsie adored spending time with, she was the wild and wonderful matriarch with a quick wit, always ready with an answer – whether it was true or not - and boundless energy. She will be fondly remembered for her reckless Euchre playing (“pick it up, honey, I’m going alone!), her love of things and people which resulted in a lifelong participation in flea markets, her infectious laugh and indominable spirit.
Elise is survived by Bill Rexford (son in law), Brock Inglehart (son in law), Julie (Rexford) Henderson (granddaughter), Janice (Rexford) Griffioen (granddaughter), Joanne (Rexford) Buckner (granddaughter), along with numerous other grandchildren, great grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Elsie was preceded in death by her husband, Milton C. Ness and her two daughters Sharon M. Rexford and Linda K. Inglehart.
The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to Meadowlark Retirement Village and Emmanuel Hospice for the lovingkindness showered on Elsie while she was in their care.
