Obituary for Jacqueline Ann Ruiter
Jacqueline Ann Ruiter, age 87, passed away peacefully on Monday, October 5, 2020 at Hospice House at Heartwood Lodge in Spring Lake surrounded by her family. She was born on January 13, 1933 in Grand Rapids, MI to her parents, Lowell and Ione (Bissard) McKinney. She grew up in Sparta and graduated from Sparta High School. She went on to attend Western Michigan University and Michigan State University (the highlight being their wedding proposal under the MSU Clock Tower), obtaining her Bachelor’s in Education. She married Philip Ruiter in 1955 and they were blessed with 65 years of marriage and three daughters. Jackie worked as a public-school teacher and also co-owned the family business, Peach Ridge Orchard Supply, with her husband Phil. They then retired and moved to Newaygo and most recently to Spring Lake. She was a member of the Alpha Chi Omega Sorority at MSU, Ladies Literary Club and an avid Bridge Club player. She was a long-time member of Sparta United Methodist Church before retiring out of the Sparta area. Phil and Jackie loved to travel, and did so extensively. The family’s most precious memories are of summers at the family cottage on Lake Michigan, winter weekends at the “farmhouse” in Glen Arbor, and in later years, as they wintered in Florida. Phil and Jackie are forever grateful for all the lasting friendships they made throughout their travels.
Jackie is survived by her loving and devoted husband, Phil, of Spring Lake; her beloved children, Kristy (Randy) Yonker of Grand Haven, Kathryn (Mark) Youngquist of Kent City and Kimberley (Mike) King of Okemos; her adoring grandchildren, Andrea (Jon) Tejchma, Faith Basinger, Hope (Aaron) Cochrane, Joy (Nate) Stinson, Jordan (Laura) Youngquist, Jessica King and Abby King; her precious great grandchildren: William and Jackson Tejchma; Kathleen, January and Victoria Basinger; Kalvin and Jayden Cochrane; Chloe, Rhianna and Alex Stinson; Mark, Kyra, Mia, Philip and Carter Youngquist; and many extended family members and faithful friends.
Services for Jacqueline will be held at Sparta United Methodist Church on Friday, October 9, 2020 at 3:00 PM. Family will meet visitors at the church beginning at 1:00 PM until the time of the service. Mask wearing and social distancing will be practiced. Interment will be in Greenwood Cemetery, Sparta.
The family would like to express its heartfelt thanks to Mary Beth Retsema and Alvina Boeve, for their special care and compassion toward Jackie and her family while at home. We are forever grateful for the kindness and expertise by the caregivers at Hospice House at Heartwood Lodge. In lieu of flowers they ask that memorial donations be made to Hospice House at Heartwood Lodge (North Ottawa Community Health) at www.noch.org.
