Obituary For Jari (Scheidel) Shooks

Jari Lynn Shooks, age 62, passed away after a short illness on Thursday, December 30, 2020 at Spectrum Health Butterworth Hospital. She was born in Grand Rapids, Mi. on June 4, 1958 to Carl and Roberta Scheidel. She grew up in Sparta and graduated from Sparta High School in 1976. Jari worked as an Office Manager in Human Resources, loved to do arts and crafts and also enjoyed cooking. She was a very caring and giving person, always caring about others before herself. She was one of the originators of The Compassionate Friends Grand Rapids Chapter after losing her son and daughter and wanting to help others through their grief. Jari will also be remembered, by the many who knew and loved her, for her positive personality and her great sense of humor.
Jari is survived by her sons, Chad (Chelie) Moore and Josh Shooks; grandchildren, Ashley (Andrew) Bracewell, Gage Bracewell, Matthew Swart, Noah Swart, Ryan Moore and Kelly Moore; great granddaughter, Dixie; mother, Roberta Scheidel; siblings, Keith (Sherri) Scheidel, Dave (April) Scheidel, Sandee Scheidel, Shelley (Steve) Wolgamott and Russ Scheidel; many nieces, nephews and friends. Jari was preceded in death by her son, Jesse Moore; daughter, Amy Swart; husband, Daniel Shooks, who passed a month before her on November 27, 2020; and her father, Carl Scheidel.
Family will meet visitors at the Hessel-Cheslek Funeral Home on Thursday, January 7, 2021 from 6 to 8:00PM where social distancing and masks will be required. Due to Covid-19 gathering restrictions, the family will be celebrating a private Mass of the Christian Burial at Holy Family Catholic Church in Sparta. Jari’s final resting place will be in Fairplains Cemetery, Sparta. Those wishing to make a donation in memory of Jari may do so to The Compassionate Friends Grand Rapids Chapter at www.grtcf.org.

Sincere condolences to Josh, Chad, Ashley, and the rest of the family. Jari and I worked together many years, and shared lots of funny stories, heartache moments, and everything in between. She was an open book, and beamed when she shared experiences about her kids and grandkids. Some of us were lucky enough to have met others in the family along the way, too. Just when we thought we knew everything there was to know, she would share another part of her life, past and present. She shared not only her workspace with us, but cooked and hosted many employee gatherings, shared lots of laughter, and will be missed.
