Obituary For John DeVos
John DeVos born October 16, 1938, made his final journey into glory on September 29, 2021.
John was born in Cassnovia, MI to his parents John and Helen and was 1 of 6 children. John was born into a farming family and enjoyed gardening throughout his life. John was the husband of Jacklyn (Alexander) DeVos, and they celebrated 62 years of marriage this year. He was renowned for his work in textile screen printing industry, setting up multiple factories, managing production, and spearheading research and development in the industry.
He only had a few interests outside of work with fishing being a great love and passion of his life, aside from his wife and family. He enjoyed listening to classical music, spending time outside and he had a remarkable ability to fix anything.
He is preceded in death by his parents; John and Helen DeVos, his parent in laws; Edgar and Beatrice Alexander, granddaughter; Jacklyn Mary Bongiovanni, his brothers; Emil, Albert, and Robert, his brother-in-law; Donald Whitmen, sister-in-laws; Pauline DeVos and Betty DeVos.
John is survived by his loving wife, Jacklyn (Alexander) DeVos, his children; Kimberly Thorstein, Kandi DeVos, Jilayne (James) Thorington, John (Chris) DeVos, Dustin (Joy) DeVos and Corky Thorstein, grandchildren; Jera (Tim Emmons) Kingsley, Julie Kingsley, Jenny Kingsley, Danielle (Josh) Carter, Courtney (Jerad Van Hoven) Thorstein, Rebecca (Travis) Marshall, Katrina (Scott Tutewiler) DeVos, Jessica (Aaron) DeKubber, Bethany DeVos, Anthony (Rebecca) Bongiovanni, Seth Thorington, Alycia (Matt) Burmeister, Brooke Thorington, Wyatt (Ash) Thorington, Niklas Thorington, Dennis (Mary) Groendyke Jr., Nicole DeVos, Samantha DeVos, John DeVos, Abigail Fox, Addison Fox, Austin Fox, Ava Fox, 42 great grandchildren and 3 great great grandchildren. Also survived by his sister Mary Lou Whitman, brother; Tom DeVos, sister-in-laws; Betty DeVos, Arla Mae DeVos, sister and brother in law; Jill (Greg) Kingdon, special nephew; Jordan Kingdon, and several nieces and nephews and a very special fur baby; Bella. A special thank you to Johns Caregivers granddaughter Jenny, Debbie, Sharon, and nurse Drew.
The family invites you to a Visitation on Thursday, October 7th from 10AM to 11AM with a Funeral Service starting at 11AM at Settlement Lutheran Church, 1031 Johnson Rd, Gowen, MI 49326.
In lieu of flowers, Memorial Contributions in John’s honor may be made to Settlement Lutheran Church and Elara Care Hospice.
