Obituary For Joyce J. Tomson
Joyce J. Tomson (Martens), age 95, a loving Mother and
Grandmother passed away peacefully and went to be with her
Lord on Thursday, August 26, 2021.
She was preceded in death by her husband, LaVern Ernest
Tomson, by her parents George and Theresa Martens, sister,
Judy, brothers Jerry and Elmer Martens. She is survived by her
daughter, Connie Plehn (Denis) her son Thomas Tomson (Ilene),
three grandchildren, Quint Tomson (Tera), Kensey May (Mathew)
Tomi Tomson-Holesapple (Rick) and four great grandchildren,
Troy and Molly Tomson and Brayley and Lochlan May, along with
nieces and nephews.
Joyce grew up in Kent City and lived her adult life with her
husband, Ernie in Sparta, Michigan. She was athletic and
enjoyed playing baseball growing up, she was a cheerleader at
Kent City High School, an “A” student and was known as the girl
with the “Pepsodent Smile”. As an adult, she enjoyed water
skiing, cross country skiing, traveling, playing Scrabble, playing
golf, (into her 90’s!) and was the club champion at Camp Lake
Golf Club. She was an avid reader, enjoyed playing cards,
doing crossword puzzles, the casino, her walks with her son to
the Jetty in Venice, Florida, a Tiger Baseball fan, excellent cook
and hostess and a volunteer for the Special Olympics. For many
years she owned and operated a hair salon in Sparta. She was a
member of the Mamerlund Lutheran Church.
Joyce was a very positive person, social, loving and kind. Listening to her sing put a smile on your face. She was a joy to be with and will surely be missed. Cremation has taken place. A quiet family memorial gathering will take place at a future time to be determined.
