Obituary For Leslie H. Westover

Leslie H. Westover, age 62, went to his heavenly home on Wednesday, January 20, 2021 after a lengthy illness. Leslie was born in Big Rapids, Michigan on July 17, 1958 to Linn and Dolores (Van Westrienen) Westover. He grew up in Sparta, Michigan where he graduated from Sparta High School in 1977. Les was a thoughtful and kind man who liked to read and enjoyed music. He was knowledgeable about many topics and liked to have in-depth conversations with his friends and neighbors. He truly enjoyed sharing his wisdom, insight and also his strong faith and love for Christ, with others. Les was a member of Sparta Baptist Church until his failing health made it necessary for him to move out of the Sparta area.
Les is survived by his father, Linn Westover of Evansville, Indiana; sister, Lynne Marie Westover of Evansville, Indiana; uncle, Dave and Marge Westover and family of Big Rapids, Mi.; uncle, Dale Van Westrienen of Spring, Tx; and aunt, Mary McGuire of Holland, MI. Memorial services for Les will be held at Hessel-Cheslek Funeral Home in Sparta on Saturday, February 13, 2021 at 11:00 A.M. with Reverend John Coin, officiating. Friends may meet the family on Saturday morning one hour prior to the service. Les’s final resting place will be in Fairplains Cemetery in Sparta and will take place in the spring 2021. Those who wish may make memorial contributions to The Sparta Township Library, 80 N. Union Street, Sparta, MI 49345

Condolences

t shocks me now to learn of Leslie's death. It's been a few years since Les and I saw each other face to face in Big Rapids. I met Les about 7 years ago and loved listening to Les share stories. I am saddened to know that Les has passed. But we know that Les is in Heaven now. If Les was to return to earth for a while, I can imagine him excitedly bumping his elbow against me and then saying "Hey Marc, I want to share my going-to-Heaven experience with you..... May God bless Leslie, his family, and all others who he touched. Amen.

I came to know Les because he was a regular patron at Sparta Library. He had an inquisitive mind and great sense of humor. He never knew a stranger and I know he will be missed by many in this area. My heart felt condolences go out to his family members and life long friends. Les is certainly gone too soon, but is finally set free from health issues he was unable to surmount. I'm sure he is enjoying this new freedom, while making his rounds visiting everyone in heaven. God rest his soul, and grant this family His own peace. Fondly, Cheryl C.
