Obituary for Pamela Sue May
Pamela Sue Poole May, age 56, has left this world and into the arms of Jesus on Monday, October 5, 2020, over two years after being diagnosed with metastatic breast cancer. She was born on September 8, 1964 in Reed City, MI to William and Helen Poole, both of whom preceded her in death. She grew up in Ashton, MI, attended LeRoy Elementary and Pine River Jr./Sr. High School. After graduation, she moved to Grand Rapids and attended Davenport University where she earned a bachelor’s degree in business. On September 22, 1990, Pam married Terry May, and they eventually moved to Sparta, where they proudly raised their two children. Pam worked in Facilities Planning at Grand Valley State University. Prior to this, she was employed at the architectural firms of Progressive AE and Design Plus, Inc., both located in Grand Rapids. Pam was also a member of the Sparta Area Schools Board of Education for over 6 years serving as Trustee and Secretary during her terms.
Pam is survived by her husband of 30 years, Terry; children, Marrielle and Daniel Konkle of Ann Arbor, Kyle May and Camden Kinnie of North Carolina; sister Brenda, and Joe Holmes; nephew, Lance Holmes and his family, all of Gaylord. Pam is also survived by her mother-in-law, sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, several nieces, nephews, great niece, and great nephew. Pam was first diagnosed with breast cancer in 2011 and had several good years before her recent diagnosis in 2018. Even after, she continued to enjoy life with her family and friends until her body would no longer allow it. She loved music, the beach, hiking, and traveling.
As Pam had wished, cremation has taken place. A Celebration of Life open house will be held at the Sparta High School Football Field on Sunday, October 11, 2020 from 3:00-7:00 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial at St. John Paul II Catholic Church in Cedar Springs will take place Monday, October 12 at 11 a.m. The ceremony will be live-streamed on the parish's Facebook page. Under the present conditions, please be attentive to appropriate safety guidelines. Please consider donations in Pam's memory to St. John Paul II Parish or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
