Obituary For Richard Henry Schaefer
Richard H. Schaefer 78 of Comstock Park, formally of Conklin, passed away on July 1, 2021 in the loving arms of his wife Patricia (Welch) of 57 years with his children and grandchildren at his side.
Richard was born in Conklin, MI to David and Mae (Nelson) Schaefer, May 4, 1943. Richard worked as a lineman for 35 years until his retirement from Great Lakes Energy. He was a member of IBEW876. He loved being a lineman, and all of the challenges that came along with the job. He was proud that he scored 100% on his state electrical exam. He had many talents and interest. He was avid gardener and woodworker, making gifts for his kids and grandkids and great grandkids. He loved fishing but sucked at hunting. He was a funny witty jokester. His ability to B.S. and keep a straight face while always keeping you guessing was one of his many talents. He loved playing cards and board games with his family but always cheating to win, while keeping a straight face and admitting nothing.
Richard is survived by his wife Patricia, Children Vonda (Jeff) Berdyck of Allendale, Deborah (Mike) Rymut of Chesterfield Twp, Michael (Vicky) Schaefer of LeRoy, Steven (Dawn) Schaefer of Carolina Shores N.C. and Tina Schaefer of Hersey. He also leaves 11 Grandchildren and 16 Great-Grandchildren and 1 on the way.
He was proceeded in death by his parents, 2 brothers and 2 sisters.
Funeral services for Rich will be held at 1:00pm on Tuesday, July 6, 2021 at Hessel-Cheslek Funeral Home, 88 East Division Street in Sparta.
The family will greet relatives and friends one hour prior to the service from 12pm-1pm at the funeral home.
Burial will take place in Fairplains Cemetery in Sparta Township.
In Lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Spectrum Health Hospice.
