Obituary for Rita Claire Morgan
Rita Claire Morgan, age 89, passed away at Green Acres Cedar Springs surrounded by her family on December 25, 2019. She was born in Cornwall, Ontario on May 21, 1930 to Arthur and Lena Petry. She grew up and graduated high school in New York, married her late husband William Morgan in 1948 and they then moved to the Sparta/Comstock Park area. Rita worked in the medical field as an X-ray Technician, Medical Secretary and an Ambulance Driver/Attendant. She was the first woman on the crew for Rockford Ambulance. She also owned and operated the Country Kitchen Restaurant in Sparta for many years. Rita was a 4H Leader, a Girl Scout Leader and was a long-time, active member of Holy Family Parish in Sparta where she served as a Lector and Eucharistic Minister.
Rita is survived by her son, William R. Morgan, Jr. of Grandville; daughters, Karin (Joseph) Bowden of Sparta, Sharon Taylor of Sparta and Marianne (Alan) Myers of Cedar Springs; 21 grandchildren, great grandchildren and great, great grandchildren, many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Bill; and daughter-in-law, Pat.
Services for Rita will be held on Monday, December 30, 2019 at 11:00AM at St. John Paul Catholic Church in Cedar Springs with Father Lam Li officiating. Family will meet visitors at Hessel-Cheslek Funeral Home in Sparta on Sunday, December 29, 2019 from 5-8:00 PM with a Prayer Service at 7:30PM. There will also be an hour visitation at the church on Monday prior to the funeral beginning at 10:00AM. Interment will be in Blythefield Memory Gardens.
